BEE BOX HONEY
PACKAGING
Graphic Design / Product Development / Graphic Illustration
The packaging for Bee Box Honey was a conceptual challenge. The puzzle to solve was how to merge two unrelated ideas into a single visual design. Artisanal food products and audio-engineering. Nature provided a clue to the answer.
It’s evident to anyone that bees make a recognizable sound. And who hasn’t seen an old cartoon where a band of bees buzzes out some musical number? As an instrumentalist, I was also aware that these sounds could be achieved through guitar effects such as fuzz and overdrive pedals—a product industry with a rich history of graphic design. Inspired, I began researching the art and graphics of brand name pedal effects and stomp-boxes.
To further enhance the connection to audio-engineering, the box features a simple contact. When broken through opening the lid, the box plays a short melody composed of audio samples collected from natural bee sounds—the same device used in musical greeting cards.
